A pirate vessel such as the Tears of Corruption scorns long-range missile engagements, preferring to use surprise and stealth to get up close. Combat then becomes a brutal affair : with modern magnetic pulse technology and no air resistance, projectiles are fired at incredible speeds. Although magnetic and energy shields do exist to ward off space debris, they are of no use in combat, and no material has yet been discovered to render a ship bullet-proof. Projectiles tear through hulls and the ship that survives is the one that manages to avoid incoming fire, taking out the enemy's key systems and crew before they can fight back.
