All eight fleets of the The United Nations' Navy were depleted during the 2340-41 war, but they remain a force to reckon with.  Clustered around Luna, the UNN play an increasingly important role in its government, and have already been behind three overthrows in nine years, one of which was particularly violent.

It is in part this autocratic tendency that has led to several small groups of UNN ships splitting off, under the control of charismatic admirals.

Another bone of contention, however, is the spread of the "New Humanity" current throughout the fleet.  Increasingly seeing themselves as the elite of Luna society, living among themselves on their vessels rather than on the moon's surface, and obviously tramautised by the collapse of Terran civilisation, the crew of the UNN ships are seduced by this religion that prones humanity merging with technology to surpass its tragic historical condition.  No doubt the interaction of proto-molecule and human beings, in the form of the Hybrids, fuels speculation about what this augmented humanity might become.
