MCRN Marine training includes thorough psychological examination, which also serves as a guiding light for Martian citizens upon their return to civilian life.  Zed's psych evals revealed him to be totally lacking both in empathy and in team spirit, which is a pretty bad psychological set for Mars.  Like all Martian organisations, the MCRN however hates waste, and  offered the young man a do-or-die tour of duty with the MCRN-IS.  He seemed a solid candidate for delivering death from afar.

 

Whilst far from being qualified as a tactical sniper, Zed was assigned to Armat Sin's IS team, and went with him to Pandora in 2335, a few days after the mysterious destruction of Phoebe Research Station.  They were to bring back some sort of evidence smuggled out of the station shortly before its demise.  The young Martian played an important tactical role in the ensuing gunfight on Pandora A (+2 Renown).  He was however later captured by the Tears of Corruption crew during an ambush.
